MIDSOMMAR:THE DIRECTOR'S CUT is a trippy scary folk-horror film, visually stunning and rich with psychedelic scenes that are perfect for Psych-Out Cinema. The film follows an American couple who attend a festival in a small town in Sweden. The trip, planned to be a hippie idyllic retreat suddenly becomes disastrous when the hosts turn out to be a violent pagan cult that disorients their guests with hallucinatory drugs.
MIDSOMMAR premiered in 2019 and THE DIRECTOR'S CUT followed in the same year. Written and directed by Ari Aster and starring Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor as the main characters. THE DIRECTOR'S CUT adds an extra 24 minutes to the original, focusing on adding graphic violence to the pre-existing scenes. The cinematography, use of colours and spectacular visual effects aided by the soundtrack of Bobby Krlic truly brings to life what the characters are seeing and feeling.
MIDSOMMAR: THE DIRECTOR'S CUT is an ideal psych-out Halloween treat guaranteed to be enjoyed for a night out at the Revue Cinema. (TERRY O' FLAHERTY)
