Cara Page of Changing Frequencies, in partnership with Philip Sanchez of Blurred Media, are proud to present ‘Psalm for the Mismemoried’ on August 9th and 10th.
‘Psalm for the MisMemoried’ is the story of an ancestor named Future who travels across time & space to take ‘mismemoried' ancestors home. She is arriving at Central State Hospital to take Hattie, a former patient and worker who was left behind. Future has come to take Hattie home.
‘Psalm for the MisMemoried’ is a 360 video (experimental, and historical drama) that takes place on the actual campus of Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, GA. Founded in 1842, Central State Hospital, also known as the Georgia State Lunatic, Idiot, and Epileptic Asylum, became one of the largest mental hospitals in the world. Having served over 14,000 patients on a 2,000 acre wide campus in the state of Georgia in the U.S. the hospital was known as a site of experimentation. “Therapies”including electro-shock and others were administered on its patients. Later, the hospital would come to be known as a place of egregious abuses. After speaking with some families, we also learned the hospital had stories of Black families leaving their relatives and never seeing them again.
*mismemoried is a new word meaning-the missed and the lost memory of ancestors when they are disappeared and were taken from generations.
