About this Event

This event will include three classes, and be followed directly by our annual scion exchange where you can share plant materials with other fruit enthusiasts.

9:00 to 9:25 - Winter and Summer Pruning

Confused by the best time to prune your trees, or what to do when? Join us to learn how and when to prune your trees to set them up for success.

9:30 to 10:00 - Selecting Trees for a Changing Climate

With many aspects of climate change already here, it can be hard to know what to do when selecting long-lived plants like fruit trees. We'll cover how to select trees for a changing climate, including all about chilling hours, and everything else you need to know to pick trees that will thrive for years to come.

10:00 to 10:50 – Grafting demo and hands on workshop

Imagine a rose bush with different colored blossoms or a nectarine/apricot tree. Do you want to increase your inventory of shrubs and trees but have little room? Learn the grafting method commonly used to add different varieties onto an existing plant so that both varieties produce flowers and/or fruit.

After the workshop, join us for our annual scion exchange from 11am to 12pm. February is the perfect time for winter pruning. Instead of composting the discarded branches (scions), exchange them with other orchardists and pick up some new-to-you varieties.

Visit https://trianglefruitandnutgrowers.weebly.com/collect-scions.html for instructions on how to collect scions or email [email protected].
