Detroit’s post-punk band Protomartyr returns to VERA during their current European tour — this time celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their breakthrough album The Agent Intellect, which they’ll perform in full. Known for their gripping live shows and critically praised records like The Agent Intellect and Relatives in Descent, the band previously won the VERA Poll twice in a row — an honor shared by only a few.
Frontman Joe Casey’s deadpan delivery and the band’s tense, melodic arrangements make for a distinct sound that continues to evolve. Their latest record, Formal Growth in the Desert, is among their most personal and spacious to date.
The evening opens with Groningen’s pride: Real Farmer.
With RF II, their brand-new EP full of uncompromising art punk and fierce anti-war sounds, they return to VERA. The single “Big Stepper” takes aim at the rise of far-right extremism and militarism. Their razor-sharp sound has already brought them to Primavera Sound and The Libertines Festival in London.
