WE are RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERS of IRELAND coming together to say ENOUGH is ENOUGH!Responsible dog owners become under attack time and time again because of a minority of IRRESPONSIBLE dog owners.
Responsible dog owners, strive to educate themselves on the breed we choose to own. When we take on dogs regardless of breed, we also take on the terms and conditions, such as guidelines and public safety.
UNFORTUNATELY there is a MINORITY of dog owners that DO NOT.
It is time to SEPARATE the RESPONSIBLE from the IRRESPONSIBLE!
Responsible dog owners and their dogs are constantly falling the VICTIM and PERSECUTED UNJUST. It can not continue that we are TARGETED and VICTIMISED for the actions of others.
RESPONSIBLE OWNERS need PROTECTION and the IRRESPONSIBLE need to be DEALT with on an INDIVIDUAL bases.
The BANNING of BREEDS does not work. It has not worked in other countries and it certainly won't work here in Ireland.
Bans protect the IRRESPONSIBLE and VICTIMISE the RESPONSIBLE by blaming a BREED rather than the INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBLE for the ACTIONS of their dog.
Breed specific legislation and/or breed bans do not deal with problems of irresponsible dog owners or aggressive dogs. Breed specific bans work on the assumption that all dogs of a particular breed or breed type are dangerous. This is not based on any scientific fact and is a fundamentally flawed view.
Banning specified breeds makes politicians feel like they are doing something, however these decisions do not prevent attacks! The only thing achieved is the death or abandonment of thousands of family pets and RESPONSIBLE dog owners Persecuted..
We all want the Same things. We all want to prevent dog attacks, However blaming a breed and a whole community of dog owners is not the way to deal with this.
We IMPLORE Heather Humphreys
Minister for SOCIAL PROTECTION of IRELAND
To RECONSIDER her DECISION and to work with RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERS, Instead of creating LEGISLATION such as breed bans that has failed with DETRIMENTAL CONSEQUENCES to prevent attacks in other countries.
There is more than enough LEGISLATION in Ireland to deal with an irresponsible dog owner the PROBLEM is its NEVER ENFORCED
