When: This Friday, 9am
Where: Auckland District Court
What: Our kaitiaki and protectors Emily, JessiLee, Josh, Lev and Willow will yet again be called to Auckland District Court on charges of Wilful Trespass. Come join us outside the District Court and then in the Court rooms in solidarity with our kaitiaki, with Protect Pūtiki, and with the fight to save the bay and waters.
Peotect Pūtiki has been engaging in constant peaceful protest through swimming and kayaking in the 'construction zone' in order to hold off all works fkr the proposed marina, such as piles going into the bay or rocks being moved from the kororā burrows. By holding space in the bay, we have managed to stop almost all works from 4.5 months of planned construction.
Each time we come before the Auckland District Court on the charge of 'wilful trespass', more and more people are seeing what kinds of forces and power are being used by the NZ Police and the colonial law to protect this private development. We see that all the forces of colonizing that were used against our tūpuna are being repeated here at Pūtiki - it is not good enough.
Kaitiaki have not just been front-line at the bay holding off works, but also demanding that ministers and Auckland Council step in to seek a more peaceful resolution in relationship with mana whenua, tangata whenua and the Waiheke Community. Until this happens, we will continue holding off all works and shedding light on the colonial might being used to trespass and criminalize tangata whenua & pākeha allies from trying to stop 7.3 hectares of Moana from being colonized.
