East Sussex
Sat 16 Nov 2024, 3:30PM - 4:15PM
Plastic pollution is a well-known issue for marine animals, but its impact on land animals is less understood. In this talk, Emily will discuss her research that has revealed the level to which plastics are being ingested by UK hedgehogs. She sheds light on the widespread nature of plastic contamination in terrestrial ecosystems, discussing her findings on different types of plastics across insect groups, pet foods, and land use types.
Emily Thrift is a second year PhD student at the University of Sussex. She completed an MSci in Zoology at the University of Sussex as a mature student after more than a decade spent working as a pastry chef. She is passionate about the conservation of UK mammals, and the issues they face due to our plastic pollution. She enjoys outreach, and teaching people about conservation issues.
