The only thing that allows evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing Are you really going to be silenced by the Labour group?
Or are you going to stand up for your democratic right to vote? ✊
Don’t be fooled into thinking this is about “saving money”.
This is about fear.
They are running scared.
You’ll hear them say it’s only for one year.
Well, so were the elections in 2023. Boundary changes in 2024 meant everyone was up for election, and nine of those councillors who were elected in 24 knew they’d serve just two years.
A short term has never been a reason to cancel elections before. So why now?
You’ll hear them say it will save money.
Yes, elections cost money, but democracy is not a luxury item. It’s a fundamental right.
And when polls suggest Labour could lose 8 of the 9 seats this May, you have to ask:
are they trying to dodge accountability? 🤔
You’ll hear them say this is to make way for Local Government Reorganisation.
But that hasn’t even been confirmed. We don’t know if we’re in the next tranche.
And even if we were — this is a change none of us asked for.
Why should a government initiative override our right to choose who represents us locally?
Some will say turnout is only around 30% at local elections.
That’s still thousands of residents.
Thousands of voices ignored.
Thousands of people told they don’t get a say.
That is still democracy being denied.
We should not have to put up with this.
Silence only gives them permission.
If this doesn’t sit right with you — stand with me.
