Purpose: Prophecy is meant to edify, encourage, and comfort the church.
The bible tells us the whole church can give Prophecy and is desired.
Prophecy is also used to help convict non believers of there sin and Gods judgement, as it reveals truths about their lives and actions, potentially leading them to consider their need for repentance and faith in Christ. It exposes secrets of their hearts and brings them face-to-face with their shortcomings.
