What is Touch Rugby?

Touch rugby is a fun, vibrant and exhilarating sport that celebrates inclusivity and camaraderie while promoting a healthy lifestyle. It’s non-contact. Unlike its full-contact counterpart, touch rugby is inclusive and offers players of all ages and abilities the chance to engage in a dynamic and fast-paced game without the fear of hard tackles or collisions. Fostering teamwork and sportsmanship, touch rugby encourages players to work together, strategise, and communicate effectively on the field.

Whether you're a seasoned athlete or new to the sport, touch rugby provides an opportunity for everyone to join in the fun, stay active, and build lasting connections in a welcoming and supportive environment.

About the Chairty - Young Epilepsy

Childhood epilepsy can be frightening, isolating and often a misunderstood condition. Young Epilepsy work with children and young people with epilepsy, to ensure their voices are heard and their rights protected. We campaign for children’s rights; delivering health services and research that improve diagnosis and treatments. We support children and young people throughout school, college, and university. We provide information, friendly advice, and practical help for living everyday life.

Thousands of children and young people with epilepsy are frightened, lonely and their condition is misunderstood. Children and young people with epilepsy urgently need support because their epilepsy means they are missing out on education, work, social life and access to opportunities in sport. Without support, this can impact them now and for the rest of their lives.

Epilepsy doesn’t just affect a young person when they’re having a seizure, it can affect them every day, in all areas of life. Children and young people with epilepsy may struggle with anxiety, lack of confidence and low self-esteem, especially when they have been excluded from opportunities other children and young people can participate in. Here are some examples of how epilepsy has provided a barrier to children and young people reaching their potential:

  • 17-year-old Jasmine was excluded from her school’s work experience programme with her condition given as the reason. Jasmine would love to go into sports journalism and should have had the same work experience opportunities as her peers albeit with any additional support she may have needed.
  • 11-year-old Cash talked about not being allowed to join a football camp in the easter holidays. Organisers had a blanket restriction in place preventing anyone with epilepsy taking part, something that meant aspiring footballer Cash was left out while his friends took part.

Inclusive events such as the Property & Construction Charity Touch Rugby Festival not only raise vital funds which help Young Epilepsy reach more children, young people and their families, but also raises awareness of the need to ensure these young people are given every opportunity they deserve to have. https://www.youngepilepsy.org.uk/
