About this Event

Come and join us at the Nursery propagating your own soft fruit garden where you'll learn a host of propagation techniques suitable for this time of year.

Take away cuttings to establish a fruit garden in pots, in a garden or an allotment.

We'll have currants, strawberries, raspberries - and more! Bring any questions you might have and get all the advice you need for success.




Workshop details

Your host will meet you outside the gates on Ransom Road, so please wait there.

The hugely experienced Mike will lead this workshop, which will take place in the beautiful Nursery garden at St Ann's Allotments.

Capacity: The maximum group size will be 10 people.

Tickets: The ticket price includes materials, and all tools will be provided.

Facilities: A compost toilet is available at the Nursery with hand sanitizer for hand washing.

Clothing: Please dress for the weather, and wear comfortable footwear. The garden is a 5-minute walk from the entrance to the allotments.

Parking: There is free roadside parking along Ransom Road.

Gardener's World Lifetime Achievement Award winner Mike Baldwin has a Master of Horticulture and has created over 30 show gardens, 100's of community projects and has taught horticulture and construction at Derby College for the last 35 years.

About the Nursery

This workshop will take place on our Nursery Garden, a unique and accessible garden for everyone to learn about growing food. It is maintained by volunteers and community groups, and our fresh produce is directed back to local food banks and community cafes.

There is a large commercial-scale glasshouse, and at the top of a classroom with beautiful views over the allotments.

St Ann’s Allotments are Grade 2* Listed by Historic England, and designated an Area of Importance for Nature Conservation. It is the oldest and largest are of Victorian detached town gardens in the UK, with over 700-years of history, 500 gardens, and 32 miles of hedgerow.

This event is organised by STAA, a small charity that manages a number of highly regarded projects across 30+ plots at St Ann's Allotments that provide community benefit and offer a wide variety of volunteering opportunities.
