For Nature Fest 2024 the Port Environment Centre held an event to reveal the hidden marine garden of the Port River. On a moonless night, Peter Hunt from the Malacological Society of South Australia led a group by torch light exploring the wonders beneath the water’s surface. Now these photographs, taken that night by Georgina Kenning, Graham Green & Alfie Lem, will be on display throughout April at the Port Adelaide Visitor Information Centre, alongside an exhibition of Port River Portraits by the Friends of Port River. Check out the photographs to discover the vibrant life growing on the wharf pylons & walls. A host of species were discovered living together in the river ecosystem, even a rakali was spotted swimming along the wharf wall!
Participants were captivated by the intricate nocturnal marine life, uncovering a world usually hidden from our eyes. Funds raised from the sale of prints will support the Port Environment Centre & future expeditions to show people the life beneath the water for themselves.
