Projection Mapping 101

Projection Mapping 101 is a free, two-part workshop taking place:

Monday, May 22 - 6 – 9 pm

Part 1 - This course will be an introduction to projection mapping. Students will learn about tips and techniques for projection mapping in MadMapper, and collectively brainstorm a series of projects to create in session 2.

Tuesday, May 23 – 6 – 9 pm

Part 2 - This course will be a hands-on projection mapping session where students will realize a small projection mapped sculpture in groups assembled in the Projection Mapping 1 session.

Classes are led by Gabriel Barcia-Colombo a mixed media artist whose work focuses on collections, memorialization and the act of leaving one's digital imprint for the next generation. His work takes the form of video sculptures, immersive performances, large scale projections and vending machines that sell human DNA. His video artwork plays upon this modern exigency in our culture to chronicle, preserve and wax nostalgic, an idea which Barcia-Colombo renders visually by “collecting” human portraits on video. Gabriel was commissioned to be the first digital artist to show work at the New Fulton Terminal Stop with the MTA Arts & Design program in New York City. His work has been featured in the Volta, Scope, and Art Mrkt art fairs, Victoria & Albert Museum as well as Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library. Gabe is a New York Foundation for the Arts grant awardee and faculty member at the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

This workshop is free to attendess, but registration is limited.

Classes will take place at Arts New Orleans ' Salon Artist Studios located in Canal Place mall. Salon Artist Studios is located on the second floor of Canal Place next to Antrhopologie.

No technical equipment or laptops are required for attendance.
