About this Event

Welcome to the Project Poetic Justice Community Concert!

Join us at the Anacostia Busboys & Poets for an afternoon of music, poetry, and community discussion. This event is about coming together to celebrate artistic expression and creativity. Project Poetic Justice is a new initiative at the DC J*il, harnessing the talent and passion of young men between the ages of 18-24 currently experiencing incarceration.

This event will feature original poems written by the participants, as well as new musical compositions centered around their poetry. The program will close with a short panel discussion on the role of arts education in carceral settings.

Whether you're a fan of spoken word, live music, or want to learn more from local activisits, this event is sure to spark your interest!

Don't miss out on this opportunity to be part of a meaningful and inspiring event. Mark your calendars and get ready to experience Project Poetic Justice in action!

This program couldn't be possible without the incredible dedication of poets, composers, vocalists, and instrumentalists from both Johns Hopkins University & the Peabody Institute. Additional thanks go out to all guest speakers and panelists, including: Dr. Tony Keith Jr., Drew Anderson of the Spoof School, Dora Malech of the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars, Colie Levar Long of Georgetown University's Pr*son Justice Initiative, RahzΓ© Sinclair, Jane Lewty, Dr. Amy Lopez, and many more!
