In addition to the programs listed below, the Paynetown Activity Center is open Thursday-Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., featuring a different drop-in craft each day along with live snakes, kids play area, puzzle table, and coloring table. “The Forest and the Trees” Guided Walk at 7:00 p.m.

ARRIVE ON TIME! Join the naturalist for an easy evening stroll… learn how to identify common trees by their leaves, discover the role they play in wildlife habitat, and explore techniques that foresters use to support native trees. This walk is recommended for adults and older teens (younger children with a strong interest in nature are also welcome!). 45 to 60 minutes

Cerulean Warbler Origami at 2:45 p.m.

ARRIVE ON TIME! A beautiful sky-blue bird hops from branch to branch in the canopy, but it’s not a bluebird… it’s a Cerulean Warbler! These birds are back in Indiana for the summer, after wintering way down in South America. Will you be lucky enough to see or hear one around the lake? The naturalist will teach you how to recognize them by both sight and sound – and then guide you step-by-step as you fold an origami version of this gorgeous songbird! *Recommended for adults and children ages 12+* 45 minutes
Fish of Monroe Lake from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

DROP BY learn about the most common fish seen at Monroe Lake (largemouth bass, channel catfish, white crappie) and their ecosystem roles – and color a picture of your favorite! We’ll also share about this weekend’s Free Fishing Days and the Youth Fishing Derby.
SATURDAY, JUNE 6
Monarch or Not? from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Watch for a naturalist roving the CAMPGROUND… learn how to tell the difference between Monarch butterflies and their Viceroy butterfly look-a-likes – and snag a copy of a simple Monarch-themed board game that you can play at your campsite.
Hidden Insects from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

DROP BY to learn how to identify some of the insects that thrive in a grassy habitat, maybe even in your own yard, and make a paper craft!
Youth Fishing Derby from 7 to 8:30 p.m. (Please check in no later than 7:45 p.m.!)
Paynetown SRA, Fishing Pier (across from swimming beach)
Cast a line and catch a fish! Kids, ages 16 and under, are invited to participate in this free, just-for-fun, fishing derby. Borrow our equipment or bring your own; bait will be provided. A prize drawing will be held at 8:30 p.m. for all participants! New and beginning anglers are welcome; volunteer instructors will be on hand to teach and assist as needed.
SUNDAY, JUNE 7
Cicada Songs from 10 to 11 a.m.
Paynetown SRA, Campground Playground
DROP BY to learn about the difference between annual and periodical cicadas, an insect whose “song” is part of summer’s soundtrack, and build your own cicada out of paper.
Swans: Sweet or Sus? from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

DROP BY to learn how to recognize the difference between native swans and the invasive Mute Swan – and craft your own swan to help you remember.
