Baby Constraint Movement Therapy: The Essentials of Evaluation and Treatment
About this Event

The United Cerebral Palsy's Professional Learning Series is pleased to welcome our next presenters, Valerie Pieraccini of UCP of Central Arizona and Kelli Moberg of Gillette Children's. Read their biographies below.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Learn the history and rationale including a literature review
  • Identify the population of children who may benefit and the family's role
  • Gain knowledge about key assessment tools of classification, bimanual activity, unimanual activity, family goals and functional outcomes
  • Understand core ingredients of treatment including dosage, constraint, repetitive motor-sensory training, coaching models and toys

Valerie Pieraccini MS OTR/L is Vice President of Clinical Operations and Innovation and has practiced as a pediatric occupational therapist for 30 years, working with children at United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona since 1994. Valerie received her Bachelors and Masters in occupational therapy at Western Michigan University and A.T. Still University respectively. Valerie is co-chair for the UCP National Research Committee and lead coordinator of both the Early Cerebral Palsy Detection and Intervention Collaborative and the UCP Professional Learning Series committee. Valerie is the author of Handprints: Home Programs for Hand Skills and has lectured on both children’s hand skills and early detection and intervention of cerebral palsy.
Kelli Moberg, MS, OTR/L is an experienced pediatric outpatient occupational therapist at Gillette Children’s in St. Paul, MN. She received her master’s degree in occupational therapy at the University of Minnesota. She is the co-lead in the development of Gillette Children’s CIMT programs and has been involved in three research studies on CIMT, including a Co-PI of two of them. The current research study focuses on Infant CIMT and the use of accelerometers. Kelli is certified in the gold standard upper extremity assessments for hemiplegia - Assisting Hand Assessment (AHA), Mini-Assisting Hand Assessment (Mini-AHA) and Hand Assessment for Infants (HAI).
