Explore the exciting possibilities of using Procreate software for iPad to create drawings and portraits. This is an introductory session in which you will be guided through the basic use of tools and brushes on the software. With these skills you will then be able to create your own portrait.
What experience do I need?
This is suitable for absolute beginners or those wishing to build upon previous experience in Procreate, specifically for portraiture. You will need to be familiar with using your own iPad.
Throughout the session you will be offered guidance and instruction to produce a final piece.
What will I make?
You will produce a digital portrait drawing/painting which can be printed out onto paper. The session will focus on colour/tone relationships in portraiture and the course tutor may offer suggestions and show examples of how Procreate may also be used as an aid or reference to work in other media.
Who is my tutor?
Chris Eastham is an experienced teacher of Art & Design, having taught extensively throughout her career. She has a degree in Fine Art and is a practicing painter/printmaker. In 2023 Chris was awarded a Public Art Commission by Leeds City Council. From July/ August this year her portrait drawings (which were all produced on the iPad using Procreate) will be displayed on Neville Street, close to Leeds City Centre.
Chris has been a member of Leeds Print Workshop since 2017 and has led a range of workshops in portraiture.
Do I need to bring anything?
Important: it is a requirement that participants will need to bring your own iPad on which you have downloaded the Procreate software. You will need an iPencil and have access to a portrait reference image to use as inspiration.
