About this Event

Join us to celebrate the opening of our new Hospital Rooms exhibition, Digital Art School, in partnership with Hauser & Wirth. Attendance is free but if you are able to make a donation, this will support Hospital Rooms' charitable work within NHS mental health hospitals.

Digital Art School STUDIO

Digital Art School is a free national art programme for every single NHS mental health unit in England. Hospital Rooms provides free professional quality art materials and artist-led creative activities for mental health service users.

For the first time, Hospital Rooms Digital Art School will manifest in physical space at Hauser & Wirth London. Beautifully shot creative activities will be projected in cinematic style onto a screen at the back of the gallery. Artists including José Parlá, Abbas Zahedi, Dolly Sen and many more share accessible and inventive sessions that you can participate in.

In addition to the large scale projection, you can select more intimate ways to participate through handheld digital devices and in print. You are invited to experience the various gatherings that are taking place in mental health hospitals across England and to contribute to Hospital Rooms' investigations and experimentations into new models and methods of humanising mental health spaces.

About Hospital Rooms

Hospital Rooms brings world-class art and creative programming to mental health hospitals. We collaborate with artists, service users, and NHS staff to craft innovative site-specific artworks and creative programmes. We strive to dispel stigmas and advocate for culture and creativity in mental health as a universal human right.

Artist Tim A Shaw and curator Niamh White founded Hospital Rooms after a close friend was admitted to a mental health hospital. On visiting her, they were shocked to find the hospital environment was cold and clinical at a time when she was so vulnerable. Since the charity's founding in 2016, Hospital Rooms has worked with acclaimed artists to transform mental health hospitals with high-quality artworks. To date, the team has completed 23 projects across the country and is changing what is perceived to be possible in these spaces.

Hospital Rooms is a registered charity and part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio.
