About this Event

How much of an activist are you?

When a writer receives a text message from his brother, an immigration attorney, he finds himself haunted by a persistent and troubling ghost. What begins as a quiet nudge soon becomes an urgent demand, leading him back to his hometown of Lumpkin, Georgia, now home to the Stewart County Immigration Detention Center, one of the largest immigration detention facilities in the United States.

In PRISONTOWN, acclaimed actor and playwright Lee Osorio takes audiences on a powerful, deeply personal journey (about 90% autobiographical) through a landscape shaped by poverty, detention, and the Pr*son industry. As the Writer confronts what it means to witness, to speak, and to act, the ghost makes a simple but devastating request: to see.

This thought-provoking, urgent, and emotionally gripping one-person play has been performed widely through Out of Hand Theater’s national touring program and was featured at the Eugene O’Neill Festival, and now you can experience it live in Atlanta.
