About this Event
Register to join the assembly line to fold and stamp over 3000 copies of issue 26 of The Word is Out, Prisoner Correspondence Project’s newsletter featuring inside contributions by LGBTQ prisoners. The newsletter goes out to PCP’s membership inside over 1000 prisons across all 50 states. This issue’s theme, “Music,” was chosen by the PCP inside collective, a group of prisoners who read and respond to monthly meeting minutes from the outside collective.
We’ll eat pizza and listen to a playlist of songs selected by this issue’s contributors. You can also sign up to become a pen pal to an incarcerated member of the project! This is the first of two assembly parties, the second will take place on February 14, 12-3pm.
This event is part of the Session X Assembly project , a circle of creative exchanges between systems-impacted young adults in Recess’s Assembly Fellowship program and 3 members of Life Line Creative Arts, a writing group inside Eastern Correctional Institution in Napanoch, New York.
Facilitator and artist Kriss Li shared reproductions of prior artworks by Assembly Fellows with Life-Line Creative Arts. In response, each incarcerated participant wrote a short screenplay inspired by the artworks, resulting in 3 screenplays. Communication with Life Line Creative Arts is facilitated with Archive-Based Creative Arts, the art program of Parole Preparation Project.
During the Session Residency, Li is working with Assembly Fellows to transform the 3 screenplays into a single short film, which creatively integrates some elements from all 3 screenplays. At the project closing on March 12, the film will be screened for the public and sent to members of Life-Line Creative Arts within the limitations of the Pr*son system.
