Free event with Linda Lemire! On Saturday, April 4th we’re going to play with the overlap process of art with science onto textile. Working with the rust printing process, we will wrap, bind and fold pieces of fabric onto
scrap iron/steel pieces and spray it with a potato-vinegar-salt solution. This oxidation process
will result with some swirly or linear abstract rusty patterns and prints onto the fabric.
What’s provided:
● Demonstration and sample of completed pieces
● Mish-mash of rusty items (nails, pieces of fencing, small tractor parts, bottle caps, wire,
pipe, etc.),
● Flour sack all cotton kitchen towels
● Spray bottles with potato-vinegar-salt solution
● Rubber bands, string and other binding material
● Time to play, experiment and to ask questions.
You can bring:
● Your own cloth items, such as a cotton, linen or silk shirt, scarf or fabric remnant.
● **Make sure the fabric has been washed prior to class day.
● Additional rusted (or steel/non-rusted) pieces (Scour your garage, toolshed, recycle
center, neighbors’ alley!!)
● Work gloves are also helpful while picking through the rusted metal.
Art Supply Swap. Bonus Activity!
Creative people are always hoarding bunches of cool stuff, but while Mercury was in Retrograde, they probably started boxing up and cleaning out drawers and rooms of “supplies.”
Join the purge, bring in your excess supplies for someone else to take home while shopping someone else's collections of beads, collage paraphernalia, art books, etc. Swap it out for free while you wait for your kitchen towel to rust.
