About this Event
Register today for Print and Piety: The “Eminent Usefulness” of Andrew Fuller’s Legacy
Hosted by the Jonathan Edwards Center at Gateway Seminary
The phrase “eminent usefulness” comes from Fuller’s ordination sermon for R. Fawkner, where he stated, “eminent spirituality in a minister is usually attended with eminent usefulness.” In Fuller’s time, Christians valued ministers not only for their theological knowledge but also for their ability to help others grow spiritually, a trait that was highly sought after.
Register for the Andrew Fuller Conference, taking place May 28-30, 2026 (Thursday to Saturday), at Gateway Seminary in Ontario, California. Join fellow scholars and students for a unique opportunity to explore the life, thought, and legacy of English Baptist pastor and theologian, Andrew Fuller.
Plenary sessions will be led by David Bebbington, Michael Haykin, Peter Morden, Nathan Finn and Chris Chun. Parallel papers will be presented by scholars and students on campus!
Call For Papers
We are inviting theologians and historians who work with English Baptists in the Long 18th Century to submit papers.
The plenary speakers will be Michael Haykin, David Bebbington, Peter Morden, Nathan Finn and Chris Chun. Beyond the plenaries, we are seeking a suite of parallel papers on English Baptist Andrew Fuller and his contemporaries.
Send a 300-word proposal including your paper’s title, key argument, and the sources you will interact with. Be concise and specific about your argument, so the planning committee can make an informed decision. Please include a CV for background, but independent scholars and student proposals are welcome. Papers should be no longer than 30-40 minutes in presentation, followed by 10-15 minutes for Q&A.
Please email your proposal to [email protected] by December 29, 2025. Selections will be announced in January 2026.
