Join us for Pride Storytellers, where local community members take the stage to share true, personal stories centered on a single theme. Told without notes and straight from the heart, these stories lean into honesty, vulnerability, humor, and deep emotional connection. It’s storytelling at its most authentic—raw, real, and powerfully human. On Thursday, April 23 at 6:30pm at the Temple Theater, we’ll gather around the theme, “Black and Proud: Finding Space as a Black LGBTQ+ Person.” Black LGBTQ+ residents of the Des Moines region will share first-person stories about identity, belonging, resilience, joy, and the ongoing journey of carving out space in communities that have not always made room for every part of who they are.
In a time when conversations about race, identity, and LGBTQ+ rights are often reduced to headlines and talking points, this evening offers something different: real people, real stories, and real lives. Come meet your neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family members. Listen. Learn. Celebrate the beauty, complexity, and pride of living at the intersection of Black and LGBTQ+ identities.
