This one is all about deep house, soulful techno and disco edits all with a side of acid. It’s what Primitive wants for his birthday. He handpicked this lineup and it’s a heater. Jurgen Daze and Yours Truly have both been making waves at various parties, raves, and pop ups and have promised to keep it top shelf for this event. This show also marks the first step in Primitive's odd quest to open and close his birthday weekend at The Downbeat- opening up this Thursday with b2b Mr. B in a deep cut dance floor show down and then closing Saturdays show b2b Guru playing the opposite end of the music spectrum… but let’s start here:

Jurgen Daze is a Vancouver/Victoria B.C based dj/producer/multi-instrumentalist. He was introduced to the art of dj’ing in his early teens which has now blossomed into a lifestyle of meticulously crafting highly curated sets and constantly digging for new music to show the people.

focusing on filling dance floors with many genres of music, smiles and good times he’s held club residencies around Vancouver and Toronto over the years.

is a key figure in Victoria’s underground music scene, having shared the booth with selectors like The Mole, Eddie C, and Kettama. As resident DJ at The Downbeat, he supports the local scene by curating bookings like Kenny Larkin, Jex Opolis, & DJ Dood/Weezie. He is also a co-founder of Club Loading, a cornerstone of Victoria’s nightlife, and coordinates/supports Indeed Sound System events. His sets blend classic soulful house, deep bass-line minimal grooves, with hints of techno. Drawing from the sounds of Detroit and Chicago, he weaves together different styles and eras, creating sonics that are both nostalgic and forward-thinking, consistently delivering an immersive and deep journey.

Pushing the DJ and rave lifestyle in the Pacific Northwest since 2000, supporting the community by creating a slew of residencies, coordinating gigs for other DJs, promoting shows and developing the culture through platforms like Party People Sound Solutions, Primitive Hustle, Footwork Entertainment and PK Sound Victoria. He is currently the Music Director and Booking Manager for The Downbeat Event Centre.

Never one to be limited by genre, Primitive’s sound connects the dots between Techno, House, Breaks and Acid, while also dabbling in offshoots of Drum and Bass including Footwork, Juke, Half Time, and Jungle. A DJ’s DJ that can burn down any dance, Primitive sets are system flexing- think big psychedelic festival set crossed with sweaty late night house party and be ready to get all the way down.

Mr. B’s uncompromising blend of house and breaks is not to be missed. B’s sets are best experienced long form. His real talent lies in teasing out the connections between the various strains of underground dance music he has been steeped in for the better part of his life. From House, Bass and Techno to Disco, Funk and Rock, often dusting off well-worn but forgotten favourites, Mr.B consistently delivers a smooth selection geared for discerning audiences. Over the years residencies in Calgary and Victoria and his long involvement with Shambhala Music Festival have honed his eclectic style- reminiscent of and inspired by legendary artists such as mr. scruff and Mark Farina. A veteran of Shambhala’s Village Stage since 2008, now working with the Living Room Stage, his yearly sunrise sets have garnered a dedicated following of left field aficionados that yearn to lighten up the space.
