During the seventh edition, we take a deep dive into the history of Montgomery’s historic districts and the modern challenges they face. Whether you are a neighborhood advocate, a property owner, or a history enthusiast, this is your opportunity to gain the tools needed to lead.
The Preservation Leadership Seminar series was established seven years ago as a resource for owners living and/or working in historic properties. The 2026 seminar will focus on the historic Centennial Hill neighborhood. Centennial Hill was developed as a neighborhood by and for Black Montgomerians during the Reconstruction period. Early Black developers purchased large tracts of land in the area, subdivided lots, and sold them to Black families for building. In its early years, Centennial Hill was home to both working-class Black people and Montgomery’s early Black professional class. Sessions will include lectures on the community history, a walking tour of the business district, and field trips to notable sites in the neighborhood. The course fee is $35 and includes all presentations and events.
