What does it mean to reimagine monuments and memorials in our city? Shaping Legacy: San Francisco’s Monuments and Memorials is a multi-year initiative of the San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) that critically examines the Civic Art Collection while engaging artists and communities historically excluded from the commemorative landscape.
✨ Join artists Ambrose Trataris, Sophia Tupuola and Tricia Rainwater as they share artworks, inspirations and works in progress. A panel discussion will follow, moderated by Angela Carrier, Senior Program Manager at SFAC.
🎨 About the Artists
Tricia Rainwater – A Choctaw and German Indigiqueer multimedia artist whose work spans self-portraiture, sculpture, murals and installations. Rooted in identity and grief, her practice creates spaces for personal and collective healing.
Ambrose Trataris (aka Cy Berspace) – A trans conceptual artist, technologist and Drag performer exploring identity, embodiment and community through sculpture, performance and mixed reality.
Sophia Tupuola – A first-generation Sāmoan-American whose art and organizing work confront systemic inequity and co-creates spaces for shared decision-making power.
🎤 Moderator
Angela Carrier – Senior Program Manager at SFAC, cultural producer, and longtime advocate for artist engagement and community-centered cultural work.
