Joanne’s passion for people, her love of sharing gospel music and seeing the joy it brings to those that sing continues to grow.
Joanne found her passion for singing at a young age and formed a gospel group in her local church, which caught the attention of Ken Burton who recruited them to Croydon SDA Gospel Choir. Following this she was elected as Choir Leader for the Croydon Youth Choir and led them for 17 years specialising in a range of gospel styles and participated in a large number of events nationally and internationally with the high points being BBC’s Songs of Praise, Fairfield Halls and different church events.
Joanne Miller’s musical activities cover a range of genres and roles. In addition to a choir director, vocal coach and music teacher, with regular musical commitments, she actively supports charities and community initiatives such as Mind, Lives not Knives, The National Autistic Society, Christians Against Poverty and recently Bromley Homeless. As long as there are people who want the musical challenge, Joanne will continue to share her heart and experience.
Joanne’s appreciation of music deepened as she had opportunities to work and learn from leading gospel influences and distinguished gospel soloists. Some of Joanne’s achievements include: Singing in televised programmes such as Unexpected Star (Michael McIntyre), Sunday Night at the Palladium (Bradley Walsh), Songs of Praise, and Eastenders; Recorded music with different gospel groups.
Joanne is extremely keen in developing and supporting community music initiatives. Joanne is often called on to hold training sessions or workshops. She created the first singing programme for Crisis (Croydon), the national charity for people who are homeless and developed the Music Relief Foundation music programme supporting young people and vulnerable adults challenged with issues such as knife crime, mental health, safeguarding, sexual exploitation, and trafficking.
From Joanne’s breadth of musical experience, she has been able to create different groups, with various musical emphases, for many events. This has included music videos, led concerts, weddings, funerals, backing vocals and artist recordings. For those involved, a session with Joanne is sure to be stimulating and intriguing.
