What is a powerlifting competition?
A powerlifting competition is a strength sport event where athletes test their maximum ability in three core lifts: the squat, the bench press, and the deadlift.
Each competitor is given three attempts at each lift, and the heaviest successful attempt in each discipline is recorded.
These top lifts are then combined to form the athlete’s total, which determines their ranking within their weight and age category. Lifters compete under judging standards to ensure proper technique and safety, and competitions are divided by sex and weight class.
The atmosphere is inclusive and supportive, with athletes striving for personal bests.
