Awaken your body’s strength and wisdom
When: Wednesday, April 23 · 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Where: Nomadic Vintage Rugs — 516 SE Morrison St, Portland, OR 97214
Who: Open to women + queer community
What to Expect:
Join us for an evening of embodied self-care. In this two-part offering, we’ll first learn how to move through the world with strength and awareness, and then gently return to ourselves for rest and reflection.
We’ll begin by tuning into our strength with a fun and supportive self-defense lesson led by Allie that is focused on prevention, awareness, and simple yet effective physical techniques. You’ll learn how to:
- Avoid and de-escalate threatening situations
- Block, strike, and kick with confidence and intention
- Escape from a common hold
We’ll practice these movements together in community—keeping it light, energetic, and empowering—so your body starts to remember how to move with confidence and purpose.
Then, we’ll shift into calmness and reflection with a soothing sound bath led by Taylor. Using healing frequencies, her voice, and crystal singing bowls, Taylor will guide you into a meditative state to calm your nervous system, ease the body, and restore your sense of inner balance.
To close our evening, we’ll each draw an oracle card to receive a special message—something gentle and grounding to carry with you after this experience of empowerment and self-nourishment.
What to Bring:
- Comfortable clothes you can move in
- Water bottle
- Yoga mat + blanket for the sound bath
- Optional: Eye mask and pillow for added comfort
- Journal + pen for reflection
Parking:
- Free parking in the Nomadic Vintage Rug parking lot, just south of the storefront behind the MAX station. Street parking also available.
About Allie
Allie is a USTF and WT certified black belt in Taekwondo with decades of martial arts experience, spanning multiple styles and self-defense techniques. She has taught both adults and children for years and brings a compassionate, community-centered approach to every class she leads.
Allie believes that self-defense is a powerful form of self-care—that cultivating confidence in our bodies, boundaries, and voice is a practice of empowerment, not fear. Her goal is to help people feel more grounded, more capable, and more connected to themselves and to one another.
Outside of teaching, Allie works as a human-centered designer, and she brings the same thoughtful, people-first mindset to her self-defense offerings. For her, this work is deeply personal and satisfying. She’s thrilled watching people leave her classes feeling more confident, more powerful, more at home in their bodies, and more supported by a community of like-minded peers.
About Taylor
Taylor is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist using her musical background to bring deep healing to the mind, body and spirit. Her understanding and experience as a musician gives her a unique and intentional approach to crafting thoughtful sound healing journeys. Valuing authentic expression and genuine connection, Taylor creates containers for individuals to clear energetic blocks and tap into their highest expression of self. Using specific frequencies to soothe the nervous system, quiet the mind, and bring a sense of deep calm and restoration to our beings, she believes that sound is the medicine of the future.
