About this Event
It’s crunch time in the 2025 Legislature, when community voices may have the greatest impact on whether and how the few remaining bills left alive make it to the Governor’s desk.
This workshop is designed for high school and college students (ages 16-24) who are interested in understanding how they can be agents of change in this stage of the legislative process, and advocate for and against policy proposals that may impact our islands and communities for generations or longer. Participants will learn about how bills pass into law, current proposals that may impact their lives and the lives of those yet unborn - and how they can make a difference as youth who have the most at stake in our legislators’ decisions.
Led by Wayne Tanaka and other community leaders, this free session is open to the first 15 youth participants, who will also have the opportunity to take real-life action immediately, and through subsequent engagement with legislators and the community. ‘Ono food will also be provided for all participants.
Whether you are new to legislative advocacy or already engaged, this workshop offers a chance to reflect on our kuleana to engage in the legislative process, connect with like-minded people, and take the first steps to shaping the future of our islands and communities. Join us to learn, strategize and take action to protect what we love and build a brighter future for our Hawai‘i nei!
