About this Event
Do you keep chickens? Poultry keeping involves so much. There’s pasty butt, pest birds, fart eggs, and bumblefoot. Also, chicken therapy is real.
Happy hens provide pleasure and butt-nuggets for your table. In its sixth hatch season of heritage poultry, Melissa Hemken of Melissahof Hatchery manages five breeding flocks - four as pastured and one as free range. Melissa will show students how to avoid pasty butt on baby chicks, tips and tricks to easily care for egg-laying hens, ways to prevent poultry diseases, and how to build mobile fresh-air coop. She will also lead a tour through pastured and free-range flock management styles. Class location is outside at Melissahof Hatchery, please dress appropriately for the weather and varied terrain.
Payment is due at the time of registration. Signing up for classes is available online, over the phone at (307) 332-3394, or in person at CWC Lander - 120 Enterprise Boulevard. Credit card payments, both through Eventbrite and CWC, are subject to processing fees. Cash or check payments are also accepted.
