About this Event
During this course you will be introduced to hand-building methods and techniques in ceramics. The tutor will give demonstrations and guide you through different methods including pinch pots, slab and coiling. You will have the opportunity to explore and practice the techniques and experiment with different tools.
You will gain confidence with working in clay and be able to make your own work comfortably after finishing the six weeks. At the final session you will be able to finish each piece by experimenting with glaze. It is important to understand that this is not a technical course about making perfect pieces of pottery (although that’s great too), instead you will be encouraged to experiment, be creative and make something that’s unique to you.
The classes will be calm and therapeutic, with a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
The course is suitable for beginners who want to learn the basics of pottery as well as improvers who would like to refresh their knowledge with some support. *If you have already completed the introductory course with Annie she will help you to further your learning and build on your skills.
All tools and materials will be provided but please bring an apron or clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. You are welcome to bring your own moulds and tools if you have them. Clay will be limited to a specific amount per person and there will be a set number of kiln firings per six week course. A small selection of glazes will be provided by the tutor and students cannot bring their own. Please note: your work will be fired after the course finishes and will be available for you to come and collect at a later date.
