Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, our skilled instructors will guide you through the weeks as you build your skill and knowledge of ceramics. Get ready to unleash your creativity and have a fun time with clay! Don't miss out on this opportunity to explore the world of pottery.

This course covers and introduction to wheel throwing and making mugs for beginners. Throughout the course you will be taught to throw a simple cylinder, shown how to trim pots and attach handles. At the end of the course you will have a mug or a cup which can then be painted in the painting session to make a usable, food safe object. Sound exciting?
These five, beginner-friendly pottery classes are 2.5 hours long and take place consecutively every Thursday (apart from a 1 week break to allow for your creations to dry before being painted). You'll have your own dedicated wheel for the entire course. All the materials you need are provided and firings too!

No prior knowledge required.

Pottery Course outline
Week one - This first pottery workshop will involve some intensive teaching. You will be guided, through demonstrations, on how to prepare your clay, how to throw a pot on the wheel, and how to centre, open and pull up the walls of your pot. There will also be plenty of practice time.
Week two - During the second week, you would have perfected your centering skills, you will then be shown how to produce a basic cylinder on the wheel. This shape will prepare you for making all kinds of pot types.
Week three - In this class, you will turn (trim) your pots on the wheel, using a variety of tools. This is when you begin to tidy them up and get them ready for attaching your handles.
Week four - By the fourth, you will now learn how to create and attach handles to transform your piece into a mug. You will learn a couple of different methods to create your handles so that you can experiment with different shapes.
Week five - The final week will introduce you to glazing as you finish up all your pots with a beautiful glaze. These will then be fired for a second time ready for you to pick up in two weeks!

Please note:

  • Thursday 4th July- there will be a week off to allow your pots to be bisque fired before glazing
  • Your work will be ready for collection two weeks after the last class and we will hold your work for a further month. Unfortunately, due to limited storage space, we cannot keep your work beyond this time.
