Judging is based on the whole cooking experience and starts when the cooking starts.
Presentation of food to the judges at 17:00
Prize giving immediately after judging
Rules:
• The theme of the competition is “”Around the World” – choose a country and base your potjie flavours on that country”
• Each team can have up to four members actively cooking and preparing. Outside help is not allowed.
• Teams will prepare at least a 2-course meal (main course and dessert) based on the theme country. Points will be awarded for authenticity of the meal.
• Each pot is expected to feed approximately 10 people
• Teams are encouraged to dress according to their country of choice and decorate the cooking area according to the theme.
• You can only use wood and charcoal/briquettes. Fires will be provided by the hosts, but if you are a fire hog, bring some extra.
• After judging, the host club will sell plates to attendees at R30 to cover costs.
• All the potjies must be prepared from scratch on the day of the competition at the host venue
• The hosts will provide a communal pot of rice for all participants if desired. Feel free to provide your own starch if it better suits your theme
• All food must be cooked in traditional cast iron Dutch pots or potjies.
• All cooking to be completed and ready for presentation by 17h00
• Ensure your team’s name is visible to judges and other participants.
• Judging will be done by a judge or judges appointed by the host club and the decision of the judges will be final.
Judging criteria:
Up to 10 points will be awarded in each of the following categories:
1. Quality of finished products
2. Presentation of the food
3. Authenticity to the country of origin
4. Spirit and decoration of the cooking area
5. Cleanliness of cooking space and cooking skills
