Workshop information: This is a DONA International approved workshop and one step toward certification as a Postpartum Doula. The workshop is experiential and interactive, offering participants a broad-based learning experience. Participants learn in an environment that fosters self-growth while providing both didactic and hands-on experience (yes, even virtually!) During the workshop participants will gain in-depth knowledge about the role of a doula during the postpartum period as well as a personal understanding of the emotional and spiritual nature of birth and life with a newborn.
The Course Curriculum will Consist of:
Understanding the role of the postpartum doula.
How pregnancy and birth influence the postpartum period.
The importance of bonding.
The physical care and emotional and spiritual aspects of the newborn and mother.
Understanding newborn characteristics and infant care.
The dynamics of family and friends after birth.
Differentiating ”Baby Blues” from Perinatal Mental Health.
Dealing with loss and grief.
Household management.
Breastfeeding

Communication Skills
Business aspects of the postpartum doula practice (contract, invoices, etc.)

Our Trainer: Kathrin Auger, RN, PDT(DONA) (she/her/hers)
Kathrin grew up in Switzerland and moved to the United States in 2002. She has an extensive background in maternity and child healthcare, integrating both medical training and experience as well as a personal commitment to healthy families. She started her nursing degree in specialized pediatric care in 1993 and worked on the NICU for several years after graduating, which included the training of pediatric nurses and midwife interns. Her years of conventional medical training feed her desire to step outside the typical medical model and go deeper into more personal care during the birth and postpartum period. She currently works as a certified birth and postpartum doula, committed to help parents have an easy transition into parenthood and to support them with informed decision-making. Kathrin is a DONA International approved postpartum doula trainer since 2007. She lives in Southern California with her husband and two sons.
