Workshop Description:

Post-traumatic growth (PTG) represents positive psychological change occurring in some who suffered trauma. You can be the expert companion on a journey with your clients to find new meaning of their traumatic experience as well as purpose in life.

In this workshop, you will gain an understanding of the brain-mind dyad, the role of mindfulness, the latest research pertaining to PTG, and into clinical interventions you can begin incorporating into your work now to promote your clients’ journey towards healing and growth. You will learn how to listen for growth in your client’s language that you might otherwise miss and you will know how to share the possibility of growth at just the right times in the therapeutic journey. You will gain an introductory understanding of PTG and acquire tools and skills that can support you in the mastery of listening for and nurturing posttraumatic growth.



Workshop Objectives:

By attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the definition of PTG and how it pertains to clients in clinical and non-clinical settings.
  2. Understand the findings of research about PTG.
  3. Utalize 3 strategies for helping to facilitate PTG in clinical work and interactions with clients.



Presenter:

Dr. Victoria Grinman, PhD, LCSW-R (Bio) is a NY based psychotherapist, coach and trainer with more than 17+ years of experience working and collaborating with people of all life stages and circumstances and organizations all over the world. She is affiliated with a wide variety of academic organizations and her research focuses on posttraumatic growth, parenthood and Autism.

Continuing Education Information

6.5 live- online or in-person CE contact hours will be awarded to NY, NJ, and CT licensed social workers*, NY psychologists* , and NY mental health counselors * who have met the attendance requirements below who have met the attendance requirements below.

Social Workers: CSSW is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers. Provider #SW‐0021

*Social workers from other states, please confirm with your state licensing board. Please note that we do not specify type of credits (general, cultural competence, clinical, etc.) Many states have recognized Columbia University School of Social Work continuing education hours as we are a CSWE accredited institution and approved by the NYS Education Department to provide continuing education.


Psychologists: CSSW- OPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Psychology as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed psychologists. Provider #PSY-0194.

*Psychologists from other states, please confirm with your state licensing board.


Mental Health Counselors: NYSED State Board for Mental Health Practitioners recognizes the Center for Prolonged Grief as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed mental health counselors (#MHC-0104)

CE Attendance Requirements

Please note that in order to receive your continuing education certificate, you must attend the entire workshop and complete the evaluation in accordance to NYSED regulations. There is a 10 minute grace period. Any participant who arrives/logs in past 9:40 AM OR leaves/logs out earlier than 4:50 PM will not receive CE credits. Refunds are not provided for late arrivals or early departures. Please plan accordingly.

CE Distribution: Evaluation and Certificate forms will be distributed via email within 1 week following the event to those meeting the attendance requirements above.

Fees will be refunded less a $5 processing fee, if email notification is received by the Office of Professional Excellence up to 14 days prior to the workshop date.
