In this playful, interdisciplinary workshop we will be exploring the relationship to different materials and forms. What can we learn from working with different materials that will inspire and enrich our movement and our contact dance? We will be working in solo, duos and groups with different objects and materials, like balls, sticks, sandbags or paper. Through them, we will engage our creativity, exploring topics like spirals, momentum, weight transfer, reactivity, qualities of listening and leading/following and apply our learning to the contact improvisation practise.
Instead of thinking of manipulating and actively moving the objects, we are going to learn from them, sensitizing ourselves to listen to and follow the form and quality of the medium itself and the way it moves and proposes us to move. The task-based exercises will develop our collaboration skills and open up the possibilities for co-creation.
Through playfulness and curiosity, we will create new shapes and unknown terrains to discover. The landscapes and images appearing will awaken our senses and imagination to endless possibilities of the beautiful practice of contact improvisation.
The Hands of Mystery with Shifu Ash:

Shifu Ash will delve into Contact Improvisation, introducing Meridian Flow inspired by traditional Chinese medicine. Discover the profound connection between your mind, spine, and entire being through the power of touch. Explore energy pathways, reflexive actions, and the dance between imagination and movement. Embark on a journey where your body becomes a conduit for both physical and ethereal expression.
