This performance captures the sounds that shaped German society in the early 20th century. The music of composers Paul Hindemith, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Kurt Weill, and more—along with timeless folk and cabaret songs—are paired with images from the exhibition August Sander’s People of the 20th Century to illuminate the humor, hope, and humanity of a changing age. Presented by students, graduates, and faculty at the Yale School of Music. Offered in conjunction with the exhibition August Sander’s People of the 20th Century. Exhibition made possible by the Carolyn and George R. Rowland Foundation; the Joann and Gifford Phillips, Class of 1942, Fund; and the Wolfe Family Exhibition and Publication Fund. Program generously sponsored by the Martin A. Ryerson Lectureship Fund.
