The recent finalist in the prestigious Van Cliburn competition has quickly garnered the admiration of music lovers. Stephenson’s program masterfully bridges the past and present, beginning with Busoni’s lush interpretation of Bach’s Chaconne, flowing seamlessly into the sprightly brilliance of Scarlatti and then into the rich, early-romantic depth of Beethoven. Later in the recital, Stephenson introduces the audience to the vibrant sounds of the 20th and 21st centuries. Fazil Say’s arrangement of Gershwin’s iconic Summertime sparkles with timeless charm, while Albeniz’s Iberia Book 1 transports us to sun-soaked landscapes.
