Presented in partnership with the Colorado Springs Youth ChoirMembers of the community are invited to perform as part of a patriotic PopUp Choir, to commemorate the America 250/Colorado 150 anniversaries. In the summer of 1893, Katharine Lee Bates was in Colorado Springs teaching English at the Colorado Summer School at Colorado College. Along with a group of colleagues, she made the trip to the top of Pikes Peak, where she would create the first draft of her poem "America the Beautiful." Celebrate and reflect on Bates' words through this immersive musical experience, hosted by the Colorado Springs Youth Choir.
Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome to this free event. Register in advance to secure your spot and receive the music ahead of time. The 90-minute event includes vocal warm-ups, practicing the song by parts, and a final group performance.
