About this Event
**********We will convene in Herring Run Park, on Chesterfield Ave. opposite Cardenas! Please don't bother the residents at the street address Eventbrite required to list this gathering.**********
From spontaneous species to revered ethnic selections; from common landscaping ornamentals to alley & sidewalk weeds; from street trees to vegetable gardens: urban residential environments can host tremendous plant diversity.
Developing familiarity with plants in our bioregion, including urban settings, can expand and enrich our sense of community, connection, and belonging as we learn to recognize more neighbors making their homes alongside our own.
On these walks, we'll explore the diverse abundance of edible and medicinal plants flourishing in our urban environment. Sample some of the delicious and nutritious plants growing all around us and gain:
- identification tools and strategies,
- safety considerations from plant ID to contaminants to legality, and
- approaches to incorporate as you weave your place into the interspecies webs of relationship and reciprocity that have always operated all around us, longing for our awareness and participation.
Please bring your own harvest basket or bag, hand-pruners or shears if you have them, and note-taking materials if you'll want them. This is NOT primarily a collecting excursion but an educational one, but it doesn't hurt to have your materials in case, or for stopping to collect on your way home!
