Poor Kelly returns for the third annual Gravy Day spectacular – a celebration of Paul Kelly's music, Christmas, friends, and of course, a roast dinner with gravy.Tired of mediocrity, local singer-songwriter Michael McDonagh (Remember the Circus) pulled together an all-star band and a new suit for the inaugural 2022 event in an Islington backyard. In response to overwhelming popular demand, they returned in 2023 to a raucous crowd at The Oak in Tighes Hill.
This year, the all-star band are back at The Oak and will again be supported by fellow all-stars Crowded Hour of Power. That is precisely one hour of Crowded House belters to get you in the mood. To kick things off this year we have a very special bluegrass treat – yet another all-star band, playing songs from Smoke & Foggy Highway.
Come for a dance, a singalong, great food, cold beer, heck, maybe even some Christmas cheer. It's an expensive ol' month, but thanks to The Oak, entry is FREE. Kick off the festive season right with some of Newcastle’s finest musicians playing some of Australia’s (definitely not New Zealand’s) finest songs. You're not going to want to miss this one - there won’t be another Saturday night gravy day until 2030!
