On Saturday April 18 the Oklahoma Mustang Club will celebrate National Mustang Day with a pony drive to the Blue Oval Car Barn in Mineral Wells, Texas. The Car Barn is owned and operated by Finley and Joni Ledbetter and specializes in 1971-1973 Mustangs. They own several MCA Concours Gold winning cars in their collection of about 60 high-performance cars including one of the largest collections of 1971 Mustangs in the nation. We'll meet at the On Cue in Mustang Saturday morning, departing at 8 am, and arriving at Mineral Wells at noon for lunch followed with a 2-hour tour of the Car Barn with the owner Finley Ledbetter. For those who want to spend the night, we have special rates at The Crazy Water Hotel, originally built in 1913, it stands on one of the Crazy Water mineral wells and was renovated with all the modern amenities and reopened in 2021.
Below is the detailed travel agenda.
7:30 am – Meet at On Cue in Mustang, 900 E State Hwy 152
8:00 am – Depart Lowes parking lot, turn left on Hwy 4
Drive south on Hwy 4 and exit at I-44 West Drive I-44 West toward Wichita Falls, TX
9:30 am – Exit at Loves Travel Stop 21 H. E. Bailey Turnpike Walters, OK
Continue driving west on I-44 to Wichita Falls, TX
Near the end of I-44 take left exit toward US-281 Jacksboro
11:15 am – Stop at Allsup’s 779 S Main St, Jacksboro, TX
Continue to Mineral Wells, TX and arrive at Noon
Have lunch at Happy Days Diner 319 N Oak Ave and/or Natty Flat Smokehouse 401 SW 1st St
(may require 2 restaurants to accommodate us depending on attendance)
1 pm – Blue Oval Car Barn 201 W Hubbard St, Mineral Wells, TX
Our tour will finish around 3 pm. For those who want to spend the night at The Crazy Water Hotel you can call 940-325-4605 and ask for the STANG26 rate. We have special rates for a King bed rooms for $215 and Queen double bed rooms for $197. You can also visit local sites and shopping Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Best Western and other hotels are also available.
The Blue Oval Car Barn collection in Mineral Wells is well worth the drive.
