Pond Management and Agritourism

Pond management class, we will cover invasive aquatic species that should be managed, native aquatic species that should be established, and wildlife to watch for that indicate a healthy ecosystem.

Agritourism we will also cover include how to integrate a fishing or recreational pond into your agritourism operation along with general recommendations for agritourism in northeast Florida.

Info: This lesson covers identification and ecological roles of native and invasive plants, fish, frogs, macroinvertebrates, and wading birds, including key species to look for and how they indicate water quality. It also reviewes pond‑bank zones—lower bank, upper bank, and bank top—highlighting which plants thrive in each area, such as turkey tangle frogfruit, tropical flatsedge, and appropriate turfgrasses for different seasons. Participants will learn about practical pond‑management resources from UF/IFAS, how to propagate wax myrtle and turkey tangle frog fruit from cuttings for easy, low-cost restoration and best practices for identifying and managing invasive aquatic plants.
