Break time is over. Politics in the Pub is back! Are you feeling overwhelmed by the housing discussion? There are so many angles that it can be hard to know where to start. Are you old enough to compare the present to that "foreign country" known as "the past"? Have you travelled enough to compare Australia to other nations? What do you know about the relevant government plans and services? What might the future look like? Oof.
Whether you are new to the topic, or are seeking to add or gain twenty cents on the matter, the Fremantle Network invite you to the first Politics in the Pub of 2026, “Australian Housing: Past, Present, Future.”
Featuring:
- To tell us how we got here, we have topic expert Sergio Famiano, author of the upcoming book “Requiem for the Australian Dream.”
- We have two speakers to give insight on where we are currently. First, we have WA Greens spokesperson for Housing and Homelessness, Tim Clifford, MLC. Second, we have a speaker from the First Nation-led community housing organisation, Noongar Mia Mia.
- To pitch a possible future, we have Tobias Busch of the Community Land Trust to tell us how we can make home ownership more achievable, first in Fremantle and then beyond.
Our MC for the evening is Brad Pettitt, speaking in his capacity as a Fremantle resident and former Mayor.
We could have had dozens of speakers and different approaches for this topic – which is where YOU come in! Politics in the Pub is about audience discussion, the speakers are only half the show. If you’d like a view represented, please come along and contribute to the discussion directly on the night.
Free event. No booking required. Arrive early for a good seat.
