The 2026 season of Polish Cinema for Beginners continues with a screening of one of the most widely awarded recent Polish debuts. Join us at CUKR for “Loss of Balance” directed by Korek Bojanowski, followed by a special guest Q&A with the director himself.
ABOUT FILM
“Loss of Balance” is an intense psychological drama set in the world of acting students, exploring ambition, vulnerability, and the thin line between inspiration and manipulation. The story follows Maja, a young actress struggling with self-doubt, whose life changes when she encounters a charismatic but controversial director.
Bojanowski’s debut quickly gained recognition on the festival circuit. The film won multiple awards at the 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, including the Don Quixote Award of the Polish Federation of Film Societies, the Złoty Klakier (Audience Award), and a distinction for Best Directorial Debut, along with an acting award for Nel Kaczmarek.
It has also received further accolades, including awards at the “Młodzi i Film” festival and distinctions at international festivals, confirming its strong reception both in Poland and abroad.
In addition, Korek Bojanowski was awarded the prestigious Janusz Morgenstern “Perspektywa” prize for the most promising debut, as well as a Ministry of Culture award, highlighting the film’s significance as a breakthrough in contemporary Polish cinema.
WHAT AFTER SCREENING?
After the screening, we invite you to a conversation with director, Korek Bojanowski. This is a rare chance to hear directly from the director about the making of the film, its themes, and the real-life experiences that shaped its story.
The discussion will be open to the audience, creating space for questions and exchange.
WHO ORGANIZE IT?
Polish Cinema for Beginners is organised entirely in English, making it the first film initiative in Poland designed especially for non-Polish speakers. The project invites both locals and internationals to discover Polish cinema together, on the big screen.
