About this Event
Before it was poured proudly, it passed among people quietly.
Join The Pigeon, in partnership with Smuggling Nun Poitín, for an afternoon celebrating Ireland’s ancient and once-illicit spirit, and the stories that surround it.
On March 7th, 1997, poitín was officially relegalized in Ireland after centuries underground. At Long Acre Tavern, we’ll raise a glass to that return and explore the history and revival of poitín. The rebellious predecessor to Irish whiskey that was outlawed for centuries, yet never disappeared.
Guests will enjoy:
- Two original cocktails crafted with Smuggling Nun Poitín
- An introduction to the history and cultural significance of poitín through prose
- Traditional songs that echo the spirit’s heritage
- An afternoon of storytelling, music, flavor, and folklore
This is not just a tasting or performance, it’s a gathering. A celebration of craft, resilience, and the enduring power of story.
Come for the spirits. Stay for the stories and music!
Poitín & Prose is performed by Michael Mellamphy. Michael is an Irish actor and co-founder of The Pigeon, a theatre and cultural production company established in 2018 alongside producer, Jessica M. DeLucia. Their work focuses on immersive, story-driven performance that bridges Irish heritage and contemporary audiences.
The SmugNun consistently ranks as the smoothest, most premium and flavorful of Irish poitíns. Discover the story of and meet the creator, Maura Clare.
