This site is well known as a hotspot for bush birds. It is also an important high tide roost for migratory waders like Far Eastern Curlew, Pacific Golden Plover and Sharp-tailed Sandpiper. We’ll do the walk in two loops. Firstly, we’ll take the “Side Trail” to School Road and back. This section is flat, easy and excellent for bush birds.
Then we’ll take the “Loop Trail” which goes to the mudflats, where the waders should be. This track can get seriously muddy, so you might want to bring gumboots to change into before we start this section.
