The Jake Adam York Reading Series presents poet PATRICIA SMITH, whose tenth poetry collection The Intentions of Thunder: New and Selected Poems (Scribner, 2025) is currently a finalist for the National Book Award. Smith’s previous awards and honors include the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the NAACP Image Award, the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award, the Lenore Marshall Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize for Lifetime Achievement. She has also been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and has won the National Poetry Slam on four separate occasions, making her the most successful poet in the competition’s history. Smith is a professor at Princeton University.The event is FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. After the reading there will be a Q&A, and the Tivoli Station Bookstore will be present to sell copies of The Intentions of Thunder, which Patricia Smith can sign.
