Join us for an afternoon of poetry reading! FBAC is excited to welcome two of Hood College's Creative Writing Faculty as they read their original poems to our community.Sandra Beasley earned a BA in English from the University of Virginia and an MFA from American University. She worked as an editor for The American Scholar for many years. She is the author of the poetry collections Count the Waves (2015); I Was the Jukebox (2010), which won the Barnard Women Poets Prize; and Theories of Falling (2008), winner of the New Issues Poetry Prize. She also published a memoir, Don’t K*ll the Birthday Girl: Tales from an Allergic Life (2011). In 2015, she received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Beasley teaches in the low-residency MFA program at Hood College and the University of Tampa. She lives in Washington, DC.
Dorian Elizabeth Knapp is the author of Requiem with an Amulet in Its Beak (Washington Writers' Publishing House, 2019) and The Spite House (C&R Press, 2011), winner of the 2010 De Novo Poetry Prize. The recipient of the Robert H. Winner Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America, the Literal Latté Poetry Award, the Discovered Voices Award from Iron Horse Literary Review, and a Maryland State Arts Council Fellowship, she is currently an associate professor of English at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, where she lives.
